- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Paul Lewis was assigned as our official appraiser for our VA loan on our new construction. Our experience with him overall was terrible. His report had wrong information that negatively impacted the value of our new home, and put my family in jeopardy of getting the loan and being able to purchase the home that we had built. His appraisal, was riddled with typos, sloppy, and overall a huge disappointment. His lack of attention to detail and the time it took to complete his report was shameful. His nonsensical approach to appraising the value of our home was ridiculous. He failed to factor in the fact that our home would be fully landscaped, and that it is a Green Path Certified home, stating that it had zero energy efficient features. He compared our brand new home with many upgrades to homes that were 65 years and older. His reconsideration of his appraisal when given new comps and supplied with the correct information was even worse. He apparently had an issue that we would question an appraisal that came in so far under the purchase agreement. On his final inspection he brought up code issues and refused to give final approval, clearly overstepping his professional boundaries as an appraiser, taking on the role of a building inspector. The only way that we were able to close on our home, was to bypass him completely, and get a real building inspector in to look at the home and issue a certificate of occupancy. I'm appalled that this man had such a negative impact on our mortgage approval process. I strongly recommend that if you are considering Paul Lewis & Associates for any appraisal that you go elsewhere.By Sam Botwinski, July 25, 2017
